Frequently Asked Questions

How do I join CastNet to find acting work?
You are in the wrong section of the website, please click here

How much does it cost to use this service?

CastNet is completely free to those seeking actors. We are paid by a small weekly fee from the actors subscribing to the service.

How can I use CastNet to find actors?
There are 3 ways to use our service to find the right actors for your project.
1) You may use our comprehensive search facilities on the website and contact actors directly by SMS and email.

2) You may submit a Breakdown with your casting requirements.

Your breakdown will only be distributed to actors that meet your requirements. We will then suggest suitable actors who have confirmed their suitability and availability.

3) If you are in a position to offer regular paid work to actors, you may request a free copy of The CastNet Directory.

Why are the actors contact details not displayed on the website?
CastNet is registered with the Data Protection Registrar. We treat the privacy and safety of our subscribers seriously.

You may contact any actor via the site free of charge by email. If you mark your message as urgent, they will also receive an instant text message on their mobile phone.

To be sure of getting the best possible response, please supply as much information about your project as possible including rehearsal, shoot & performance dates and full details of the payment rate being offered,

How do I know that the actors you suggest will be of a high standard?
Every CastNet actor has trained at an accredited drama school and has professional acting experience. We carefully vet the CV of every actor. In fact we reject many applications every week. CastNet is the only casting service to insist on such high standards.

What rate will the actors charge?
This very much depends on the type of project you are casting. We are not a traditional agency and do not negotiate rates for the actors or take any commission from their fee. Typically you should offer the actors a fee based on Equity rates, or better still, an Equity contract. It is then down to the individual actor (or their representative) to agree the rate prior to signing a contract.

We will refuse outright any commercial* work attempting to offer payment that falls well below the industry standards or equivalent Equity rates. You must state the rate being offered for any commercial project in your breakdowns, postings and in any messages sent to actors via this website.

We will reject any message or breakdown that does not clearly set out the payment being offered for the production.

* We define commercial work as any project made with the intention of producing a profit for the producer, director, their client, broadcaster or any member of the production team.

We only accept no-pay, low-pay, expenses only, deferred payment or profit-share projects being produced for wholly artistic reasons and where no individual stands to make a financial gain from their involvement in the project.

If the actor is happy to work for a lower rate of pay, what right does CastNet have to block my messages?
CastNet is unique in only allowing trained, professional actors to join this service. These actors provide a professional service for which they rightly expect to be paid a fair rate. We will not allow this service to become a cheap source of talent or to contribute in any way to driving down the rates agreed by Equity and other organisations that represent the interests of the entire acting community. A recent poll of our subscribers showed unanimous support for this policy.

How can I find out what is a fair payment to offer actors for my project?
We can offer general advise in this area. Please call Alyson on 020 8420 4209 or email alyson@castingnetwork.co.uk

For more specific advice, please contact Equity on 020 7379 6000

Can you help me find actors for my no/low budget production?
Many CastNet actors will consider professional projects that offer low or no payment. We will accept these projects only where the entire production is being produced on a non-commercial basis and for artistic reasons. If any member of the cast, crew or production team stands to make a commercial gain of any kind, we will be unable to assist unless the actors are also offered appropriate remuneration.

Can you help me find actors for my student film?
Many CastNet actors will consider roles in student films. As their involvement will be made on a charitable basis they will expect to have their expenses paid, accommodation and meals provided, an edited version of the film and to be treated professionally and with respect at all times.
Please note: Students who fail to provide a copy of the completed film to participating actors may become blacklisted by this service.
